I painted this for a friend of mine @anniestegg (you should be really following her if you don’t yet, she’s one of the most amazing artists I know!), and it was one of the most challenging paintings I’ve done in a while. I really wanted to paint Annie’s adorable dog, but as I started the process I realized I have never really drawn a dog before. Then I got hung up on trying to get the likeness right, and in result I have made many paintings as I was working on this one (Around five I think!). She seems to like it a lot, so it was worth it in the end ❤️ ———————————————————————

I went on a weekend trip this past weekend, and took a Lukas watercolor set with me to try it out :). I was traveling light, and I really wish I brought different watercolor pad with me, I felt like I was really fighting with this paper! ———————————————————————

Painting with acrylic gouache feels a lot different than painting with watercolors, and it has been a huge learning experience. There are times when I feel I’m starting to get a grasp on it, and times when I feel I have no idea what am I doing! Either way it has been a lot of fun. Looks like I’m in for many hours here! I’m not sure how well my usual process will work here, but I guess I’ll find out. I think that just getting the whole painting finished will feel like success-no matter how it turns out :)

This is one of my favorite paintings right now, so I’m surprised I didn’t get stuck yet. Usually when I like a piece I worry about ruining it, but working on this has been comforting rather than stressful. I hope that you enjoy it coming to life but by bit :) Also to anyone who inquired about my tiny palette in the past- they are currently available through @etchr_lab if you’d like to own one. Nobody asked me to advertise this, and I purchased both of the ones that I own. I just want to tell you about them, because they really are awesome! I got a lot of awesome goodies from generous @jerrysartarama and one of them was a set of acrylic gouache. @petemohrbacher has been suggesting for a while that I should try making larger pieces, so I thought why not make a really big piece with new paints! (You can see beginning of it when you swipe and in my recent story) In a meantime I made a small study to see what am I getting myself into. I really loved working with these paints, and I can’t wait to see how that big piece turns out! I will be posting progress shots as I go along, so I really hope that you like this too. ———————————————————————

For many years I would decorate eggs with my mother around Easter time. Most of the time we’d end up with one too pretty to eat, so at some point we switched to painting hollowed out eggshells :). We have reached the point however,where I paint a single eggshell for my mom ❤️ If you swipe you can see a couple from previous years too!
